more oxygen means longer wearing hours

Thirty years after contact lenses were introduced, it is no longer enough that there is another way to correct poor eyesight without having to sacrifice personal appearance to a pair of cumbersome spectacles. Comfort and longer wearing hours become more importatnt as modern lifestyles of contact-lens users shifted toward observing active, waking hours far in excess of the usual recommended wearing span for conventional contact lenses.

" Ten years ago, we were seeing a lot of patients changing their lifestyle with the rise of call centers and social-networking sites," says optometrist Jeanette Romualdez, international consultant for contact-lens manufacturer CIBA Vision, Philippines. "Contact lens can be good for vision correction but because of the change in lifestyle, these contact lenses need an upgrade. People wear their lenses more than 10 hours and that's why there's a need to come up with a better material in order to supply better oxygen to our patient's."
